I took an Adventure to Brickvention 2025

I built a thing. This is not a specifically unknown concept. Each year, I build an original model for Brickvention, Australia’s AFOL Networking Event, which was held last weekend. I presented a MOC (my own creation) paying homage to the LEGO Adventurers theme from 1998. The amount of Lore that found its way into the MOC possibly warrants a post in its own right. Here it is.

Let me tell you a tale…

2025’s Modular Building Revealed: 10350 Tudor Corner

It’s that most wonderful time of the year: sure, Christmas is coming, and the advent calendars are opening day by day. But more importantly, the latest LEGO® modular building has finally been revealed.

Modular buildings have a special place in my heart: back when I discovered such as thing as an AFOL, the modular buildings were just taking off. This was a time when the Modular buildings were a cornerstone of the AFOL experience. With only a handful of adult-focused sets being released each year, the modular was the one purchase most people seemed to agree with, whether they were otherwise into cars, trains or Star Wars.

These days, we see sets focused on grown ups being launched every other week. It is almost routine and mundane. But still, the modular always feels special.

Revamped LEGO Magazine Launched.

Since the 1980’s, the LEGO group have maintained a kids magazine in some form or other: Containing comics, puzzles, posters, photos of kids creations and, of course, profiles of new LEGO Products, these have have been an active part of the LEGO Marketing Strategy. Certainly, when my kids were growing up, the arrival to LEGO CLUB magazine, with hip and gnarly minifigure, Max.

Over the years, we have seen Bricks N Pieces, Klick Magazine, LEGO Mania, LEGO World Club, LEGO Magazine, LEGO Club, and most recently, LEGO Life. The stories in some of these magazines have been referenced heavily in learning the back stories behind some of our favourite characters here on the Rambling Brick. As such, I was curious when the LEGO Group sent the first issue of a revamped LEGO Magazine over, along with a Max Minifigure from Back-in-the-Day.

10335 Shackleton’s Endurance Revealed for Black Friday Release

The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914-17 was probably the final expedition of the Golden Age of Antarctic Exploration. Led by third time Antarctic Explorer Ernest Shackleton, the goal was to cross the icy continent from the Weddell Sea to the Ross Sea, via the South Pole. What actually happened was a feat of human survival that could be summed up in a single word: than name of the ship they had set sail on: Endurance.

Overnight, the LEGO Group has revealed a 3011 piece replica model of the Wooden Brigantine Endurance. This set will be released on 29th November 2024, priced at $AUD399.99/£229.99 / €269.99/ $USD269.99. There will be a gift with purchase at release featuring Minifigures of Ernest Shackleton and photographer William Hurley, along with one of the lifeboats used to ensure the survival of the crew.

I’m a little excited by this set…

Extra Pieces In Denmark, 2024: Listen Now, On Your Favorite Podcast Player.

There is a new episode of Extra Pieces for you to enjoy. Or at least to provide some background noise while you build and sort.

In the Closing weeks of September, I joined Jay Ong in Denmark for the Recognised LEGO® Fan Media Days. In this episode, we tell you what we can about this, but in reality, we will keep talking about it for a Good While as embargoes come to pass and news can be shared.

However, we also had the opportunity to attend the AFOL Day at the LEGO House, including a chance to see the new installations in the Masterpiece Gallery. I then followed on to the Skaerbaek Fan Weekend. Along the way, we asked people we ran into what they were looking forward to and what they love about these events, which have become a highlight of the annual AFOL Calendar.
