71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House Revealed

The forthcoming LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong’s Tree House has been revealed and is available for preorder from the Australian Certified Stores for $94.99 AUD. It will be available on 1st August 2023.

It comes with 2 buildable figures: Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong.

As with all LEGO Super Mario Expansion sets, it requires the digital Mario, Luigi or Peach for full play value. Those characters will need to have their firmware updated to include the actions included in these new sets.

Reading the product description, it appears to utilise several of the mechanics we have previously seen: picking up bananas and gifting them to other characters, as well as being able to visit Cranky Kong. In the meantime, the new mechanic of ‘playing bongos’ has been added to the play.

This appears to be an ‘interact with characters’ kind of expansion pack rather than a trap or obstacle. As such, I’m sure kids will enjoy playing with it, regardless of the timed game.

Children can build a colourful jungle level and role-play stories with this LEGO® Super Mario™ Donkey Kong’s Tree House Expansion Set (71424). The tree house is packed with authentic details to delight Donkey Kong™ fans, including a buildable TV, radio and a secret compartment. Kids can use their LEGO® Mario™, LEGO® Luigi™ or LEGO® Peach™ figures (not included) to ride on Donkey Kong’s back, nap in the hammock, knock a banana off the palm tree and gift it to Donkey Kong, ‘play’ the conga drums, visit Cranky Kong and more to earn digital coin rewards. Note: the 71360, 71387 or 71403 Starter Course is required for interactive play.

Further characters were revealed on the LEGO Social media channels earlier in the week, and I expect we will hear about more of these sets before long.

I can see a few interesting new elements in play, including a simplified palm leaf in dark tan, as well as green, a banana bunch and, is that a 1x1x1 quarter dome brick on DK’s Head? Time will tell.
