Ask yourself. “Do you feel lucky?” 10344 Lucky Bamboo

After looking at the 10343 Mini Orchid yesterday, Branko takes a look at another of the 2025 Botanical sets: This time its the 10344 Lucky Bamboo

Upon seeing the completed 10344 Lucky Bamboo on my table, the comment “It looks better than bamboo ought to” was uttered. We’re looking at 10344 Lucky Bamboo, the last flower of the four noble ones to come out in LEGO form. Bamboo could potentially be very boring, so let’s see how this translate to LEGO.

This set was provided by the LEGO group for review, but all opinions are our own.

The build

In my mind, bamboo consists of straight sticks that grow quickly and can be used for many construction purposes. I had some trouble imagining this as a decorative indoor plant, but the instruction manual helped set the scene with a bit of text and some photos.

The box contains 2 bags, one for the base/vase and another for the plant. Emptying out both bags clearly shows which bag is which, the brown big curved pieces are obviously for the vase, and the large quantity of green parts for the bamboo.

One part stood out from the rest, which is a slope curved 2 x 1 x 1, which is 1 plate lower than the well established slope curved 2 x 1 x 1 1/3 (6091)! This fits perfectly with the curve of the large corner pieces, and it’s a neat addition to the curvature palette. In my own I have often encountered situations where this curve was a bit too high so having an alternative will be pleasant. I wonder if this means that LEGO will keep both pieces in the palette, or migrate entirely to the new part (probably not).

The vase in this set is different from the other flower set in The Four Gentlemen series in that it isn’t round (but rather ’rounded’) and a little larger. The shale of the golden edge is therefor achieved in a different way, and it show nice build techniques for using studs in ‘any direction you like’ or “SIADYL”. I fear that acronym will not be as popular as Studs Not On Top (SNOT).

You may notice a golden printed token in the vase at this point. This token of luck will be hidden immediately in the next step. It is there only for the builder to know, to provide luck, taking care of the ‘lucky’ part of this set. The 4 balls will turn out to represent pebbles in the base of the pot.

As soon as the foundation is set the bamboo stems are created, which are indeed fairly straightforward columns. The rings along the length and the a printed tile on the top finish make it a satisfying and clean.

The next part involves building the same set of leaves 9 times and then mounting them to the top of the stems.

Finally some pebbles are added to the pot for a smooth playful base together with the four balls already in the base.

Placing the bamboo next to the 10369 Plum Blossom shows how the relatively simple style of the bamboo just works. It’s elegant and has a good place next to the other flower.

Bam or boo

This set pleasantly surprised me. I did not expect that bamboo could be interesting to build as a plant, but the build was quite fun and satisfying; quick enough so that the repetition didn’t drag and the end result in indeed a set that ought not look as good as it does.

I give this set an arbitrary 4 out of 5 praise units to set it apart from the Mini Orchid, reviewed here. If you would need to choose I would pick this one.

10344 Lucky Bamboo has 325 pieces and will go on sale on January 1 for AUD49.99/€29.99/USD29.99/£24.99
