This year, to celebrate Mario 10th day, the LEGO Group has upped the ante on last year’s 72037 Mario and Standard Kart with a brick-built Luigi with the Mach 8 Kart.

This new set, 72050 LEGO® Mario Kart™ – Luigi & Mach 8 has 2234 pieces and is priced at $AUD 279.99/ £159.99 / €179.99 / $USD179.99. It is available for preorder now, and will be on the shelves on April 1, 2026

Start your engines! The LEGO Group today revealed the LEGO® Mario Kart™ – Luigi & Mach 8 (72050), the latest addition to the line-up of LEGO Super Mario™ products. This highly detailed model is inspired by the beloved Mario Kart™ series.

Designed for builders aged 18 and up, the set includes 2,234 pieces that bring Luigi and the Mach 8 to fans in brick form. The buildable figure features a posable head, arms and hands, seated confidently behind the wheel of the first-ever large-scale LEGO brick recreation of the Mach 8 kart.

Builders can display the kart on its stand at dynamic, race-ready angles, capturing the excitement of a Mario Kart™ showdown mid-drift.  For added interactivity, the model can also be removed from its stand and rolled forward. Turning the steering wheel turns the front wheels, and turning the back wheels will spin the flame exhaust, allowing for a playful movement alongside static display.

The Luigi & Mach 8 set is the ideal counterpart for a LEGO® Mario Kart™ – Mario & Standard Kart (72037), sold separately, letting fans create a full head-to-head display of their favourite characters.

The LEGO Mario Kart™ – Luigi & Mach 8 (72050) is available for pre-order today (10 March 2026) and will be available for immediate purchase from 1 April 2026 via LEGO.com/Luigi-mach8 and LEGO Stores, priced at £159.99 / €179.99 / $179.99.

Personally, I have not built the Mario standard Kart, but I have not heard a bad report from anyone who has: the level of detail, as well as the overall scale are impressive when seen close up.

The new set Measures over 10 in. (25 cm) high, 16 in. (41 cm) long and 9 in. (23 cm) wide. I can already see some interesting parts emergind: the printed dishes as hubcaps, the tiles with a capital ‘L’ on them, and… did they just turn Mario’s highly specific Moustache piece upside down? No, it turns out – another highly specific, irregularly shaped plate has appeared.

These sets really are the perfect shelf mates – if you have the space. I wonder where this collection will go next?

Who would you like to see next at this scale? Princess Peach? Bowser? Leave your wishlist below!
