LEGO® Education has revealed 4 sets designed to encourage creative problem-solving for kids aged 7+. These sets are the first LEGO Education sets to be marketed at the home market, rather than directly to schools.
The box has been cunningly disguised to look like some sort of a board game, with most of the “LEGOness” hidden behind beautiful printed artwork depicting luscious retro-futuristic space-scapes and polar vistas, and a smattering of bricks tucked in for good measure. To say nothing of the Build-Solve-Invent Mantra tucked in the upper right-hand corner.

There is, of course, another path to sales success: two of the sets are space-themed and bring us a new range of City-style Space Explorer Minifigures, with an exciting new colour scheme! These figures build on the aesthetic last seen in the LEGO CITY 60446 Galactic Spaceship- itself presenting as an update of vintage space theme FUTURON.
Using the mantra of ‘build, solve, invent,’ each set brings a few ‘experiments’: two to four, depending on the set.
Each experiment has 3 phases: first: build the model described – then add to that model, using that parts included, to solve a specific problem. Finally, the invent phase brings a new challenge, with an opportunity to free build, following a series of illustrated and written prompts.
The Press Release
Today, the LEGO Group and LEGO Education launch four innovative STEM sets, specifically designed to inspire curiosity, exploration, and scientific discovery at home, for children aged 7 and up.

Developed in collaboration with educators and inspired by real-world challenges, the sets are grounded in core STEM passion points – space, animals, and nature – and bring real-world science to life through hands-on, independent play.

To mark the launch, the LEGO Group commissioned a global study* which highlights a “curiosity gap” experienced by parents. While more than 1 in 2 parents (57%) report their child’s curiosity frequently surprises them, around one in three (34%) admit they sometimes unintentionally halt their child’s exploration due to time pressures or uncertainty about answers. Critically, 3 in 4 parents (75%) feel unprepared to confidently tackle science questions at home, demonstrating a clear demand for engaging, accessible learning tools that children can play with independently.
“This research shows that parents want to support their children’s curiosity about the world around them but aren’t always equipped to explain science-specific questions themselves,” said Victor Saeijs, President of LEGO Education. “Now, for the first time, children can explore science at home with these LEGO Education STEM sets, using the Build, Solve, Invent approach. By building, testing, and inventing their own solutions, children discover that every attempt – even an unexpected one – contributes to learning. The sets are designed to foster curiosity, confidence, and creativity at every step.”

Every LEGO Education set masterfully transforms learning into an adventure through its clear and engaging “Build, Solve, Invent” play loop. First, in the Build phase, children follow instructions to build challenges, setting the stage for scientific discovery and hands-on experimentation. Next, the Solve phase sees them actively testing, tweaking, and applying their knowledge to creatively conquer challenges. Finally, in Invent, their understanding deepens as they apply learned concepts to devise their own solutions for new, open-ended challenges, fostering continuous experimentation and sustained curiosity.

“My understanding of the natural world and science largely comes from venturing into uncharted territories and hands-on exploration,” says Explorer and Naturalist Steve Backshall. “What truly excites me about these new LEGO Education STEM sets is how effectively they translate that same spirit of adventure and discovery directly into the home environment and allow children to become active scientists – experimenting, tackling real science challenges, and making their own discoveries. It truly frames learning as an exciting voyage, where every challenging moment is simply an opportunity for deeper understanding and a new ‘aha!’ moment.”

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover?
These sets feature lush artwork on their boxes, looking more like a school book or boardgame than a LEGO Education Set

Funky box designs, however were part of the downfall of the Hidden Side theme back in the early 20s, as shoppers were unsure as to whether or not they were looking at a LEGO Set. Fortunately, these sets do not rely on an app that requires a bleeding-edge phone to achieve a respectable amount of performance.
Hopefully, the sets will receive some clearer marketing. Billed as an educational toy promoting problem-solving and creative solutions, they may well have a wider retail stream than typical playsets.
A Sneak Peak: Space Explorers
And if marketing doesn’t save them, perhaps people hunting down the new Space explorers will. They don’t readily follow the same uniform sequences as the recent City Space range, but present us with teal and vibrant coral spacesuits. Perhaps these are suited to Cadets and Faculty in the new LEGO City Space Academy? I am unsure. We have one torso, with a half teal, slightly angled down – but not to the same degree as we see with last year’s Neo-futuron torso prints. There is a coral border to this colour band, and the Space logo appears in vibrant coral. The other has vibrant coral arms, and a combination of teal and coral paneling on the torso, and equipped with a utility built – with a message pad, although a walkie talkie printed on the belt is not as satisfying as holding onto the accessory. Both torsos have a name badge over the right breast.

Here are the minifigures from 2025 Galactic Spaceship. The Futuron inspired torsos are quite a bit different to the teal version that we see in the new set
This is a fun selection of figures. We will take a closer look at the sets, and their learning objectives in the next week or two.
The lessons to be learned from these sets appear to be more related to problem solving, and fostering creativity – we will take a look at these shortly.
