The 2025 Chinese International Import Expo is now underway, and we have seen several sets across a range of themes revealed. These include Chinese New Year Fireworks, as well as a Galloping Horses Canvas for the Spring Festival; the first of the 15th Anniversary Ninjago sets , the four weapons blacksmith, and a Bouquet of Tulips, the first 2026 Botanical set to be revealed. These are sets due for release in January 2026.
There was one theme missing, however.

Noticably absent from the line up was Monkie Kid – the inhouse theme continuing the story of the classical Chinese Novel, Journey to the West. There has been at least one set from this theme revealed at CIIE for the past 4 years, and I wonder if this suggests that the theme quietly coming to an end? Or do they have something bigger planned for later in the CIIE?
To be fair, the majority of LEGO Themes that have been tied up with an animated series have typically been expected to have a story cycle of around 3-4 years. Monkie Kid has seen new releases from 2020 to 2025. While the theme has met with a mixed response in the West, it has had its enthusiasts who will be sorry to see it go, if only because the TV series was left with an implied cliffhanger, or at least a lead in for the next storyline. We have not seen any new episodes of the animated series released since 2024, and I wonder if there will be a final movie or story arc produced to say farewell?
Please recognise, this is speculation: There has been no firm confirmation one way or the other from the LEGO Group at this time. But, if it comes, you read it here earlier…
In the meantime, let’s take a look at the sets that were actually revealed.
LEGO® Spring Festival
80119 Galloping Horse Canvas 1650 pieces
Price: 109,99 USD / 99,99 EUR / 89,99 GBP

Celebrate Spring Festival with this Galloping Horse Canvas build-and-display model (80119). A super Zodiac sign toy gift for boys, girls and animal lovers aged 10 and over, this set lets kids, families and friends create their own stunning horse art decor. Horses are a symbol of strength and the total number of 8 depicted in the painting/model symbolises good fortune. Attach the scene featuring minifigures of a painter and a person in Year of the Horse costume plus a horse painting on a scroll to the model. Team up with Build Together mode in the LEGO Builder app, where everyone has fun building part of the set using their own devices. Set contains 1,650 pieces.

I’m excited by the Tulips and hope to continue to bring you reviews of botanical sets for 2026. The Ninjago Blacksmith looks fun, and will be particularly important for people who have grown up following Ninjago for the past 15 years.
