
Exciting news for Pokémon trainers everywhere: Today, the LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International announced a new multi-year partnership that will bring LEGO® Pokémon™ to fans for the first time from 2026.
Pokémon first debuted as a videogame in 1996 before being developed further as an animated series and trading card game. This partnership seems set to launch in time for the 30th anniversary year. While the world might not quite return to the lofty heights of the Pokémania of the early 2000s, the property now has a transgeneration fanbase – something to be enjoyed by adults and children alike, with many of the same nostalgic feels that come along when your childhood favourites obtain new lease of life in your adult years.
While I might not have grown up with Pokémon, my children did, and my son will note when a new game appears (although the card game has passed them by.) Indeed, the major sideline for some of my Vintage minifigure vendors at the local Flea Market are Pokémon cards.
A competing brick brand has produced Pokémon building sets>cough< Mega from 2017. With the Mattel Brick Store set to launch later in the year, I guess we know which property will not be part of their ongoing lineup…

The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International both have a long history of pushing the boundaries of social play, which is at the core of this partnership. While absolutely no details beyond that flash in Pikachu’s tail are available at this stage, we can only speculate at this stage as to just which Pokémon LEGO will bring to life in Brick form from next year. I can only imagine that we can expect to see playsets aimed at young kids through to large display models for older builders. Minifigure scaled models? A full range of Brickheadz? Will we see a Pokeball that can capture and release a small brick built Pokémon?
Will this be the theme that brings a generation out of there dark ages, just like LEGO Star WArs started to over 25 years ago?
Time will tell.
