Its been rumored for some time now, and now it is finally here: 76294 The X- Mansion. The most iconic location in Marvel’s X-Men Universe and home to the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, this is the fourth in the range of ‘Marvel Modular’ sets and only the eighth LEGO® set in the 12 year history of LEGO® Marvel Superheroes to feature the X-Men.

Priced at $AUD499.99/ €329.99/ £289.99/ $USD 329.99, set 76294 has 3093 pieces and comes with 10 minifigures. The new minifigures include Professor X, a new variation of Jean Grey, Gambit, Iceman and Bishop.
Unveiling the set at the 2024 Recognised LEGO Fan Media Days, Senior Designer Justin Ramsden described the set as “…our love letter to the X-Men Universe”
The LEGO® Marvel X-Men: The X-Mansion (76294) set for adult enthusiasts is a detailed recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. This buildable model makes an ideal gift for adult fans of Super Hero adventures. The 2-level 3,093-piece X-Men X-Mansion measures over 16 in. (40 cm) wide, 25 cm deep and 27cm high.

The model can be built in 3 separate modules, designed to plug together. Indeed, you can build them seperately, with friends.

The set features a buildable Sentinel figure and 10 X-Men minifigures: Professor X, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Gambit, Rogue, Iceman, Bishop and Magneto.

The upper level houses Professor X’s laboratory, Wolverine’s bedroom and a medical lab. On the ground level is a lobby, classroom and a library. On the left of the X-Mansion is the Danger Room training facility, which is accessed via a sliding door and can be customized by reconfiguring walls and accessories.

The central copula (dome) can be made to ‘explode’ by activating a lever behind the central roof module.

Has the Dumpster passed from Running Joke to Design Icon??
The set features the now iconic Yellow Dumpster that seems to appear in all of the ‘Marvel Modular’ sets. Making its debut in the Alley behind 76178 Daily Bugle, and reappearing in 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum and 76269 The Avengers Tower, The Yellow Dumpster appears to have become a required feature in the large scale Marvel Buildings. Designer Justin Ramsden seems to be determined to tuck one into each of these sets. How long will this trend persist?

Is it modular?
Technically, it does not quite meet the complete specifications for being a LEGO Modular building. The Modular Building Collection, which began in 2007 with the Cafe Corner features 1×2 Technic Bricks on studs 10-11 from the front and back of the plate, as well as 6 modules dedicated to the footpath. The Marvel sets have a slight legacy problem: In 76178 Daily Bugle, the yellow brick with the hazard stripes in top is located one brick too far back.
Subsequent marvel sets have compensated by placing a 1×4 technic brick across studs 10-13, allowing connection with both ‘regular ‘ modular sets and the recalcitrant Daily Bugle. However, the footpath on the X-mansion is not quite as wide as the specification suggests it should be.

A Most X-Pensive X-Mas?
According to Justin Ramsden, the set has 24 bags for the construction. Just perfect to use as an advent calendar, opening a bag per day in the run up to christmas.
Where’s Jubilee?
Fans of the X-Men cartoon series from the 90s, and indeed the recent X-Men 97 on Disney+ may be wondering about Jubilee. This is where we turn to the gift with purchase, 5009015 LEGO Marvel Cerebro. A buildible portion of the Cerebro Chamber where Professor Xavier sits in a not so iconic wheelchair searching for undiscovered mutants, we can see Jubilee appearing on the screen.

This gift with purchase is available from November 1-7 for LEGO Insiders members who purchase the X-Mansion, while stocks last.
