After a blurry sneak preview by French retailer FNAC last week saw Universal Pictures wield a big stick and serve copyright strikes against folks who reposted them on Instagram last week, we now have access to the high-resolution images of these new sets – and while I might have initially been indifferent to the notion, I only saw the show once back in the days when my kids were still pretty small, I was perpetually tired, and after settling down in the warm, comfortable seats in the theatre surrounded by music, one thing led to another and I dozed off.
That said, these sets appeal to me more than I was expecting. Pre-orders open today, and they go on general sale on October 1, 2024, ahead of the November release of the Movie. Let’s take a closer look.
A quick recap for those who missed the show….
The beloved stage musical makes its way to the big screen as a generation-defining cinematic event. The untold story of the witches of Oz stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege, who has yet to discover her true heart. As they forge an unlikely friendship, their extraordinary adventures will see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
75682 LEGO® Wicked Elphaba & Glinda Figures
10+; 558 Pieces. RRP: $AUD99.99 /€54.99 / $54.99 / £49.99
With the 75682 LEGO Wicked Elphaba & Glinda Figures set, fans can scan a QR code to play along a brick build story to the iconic tune of “Defying Gravity” from the film. The set includes accessories for the two characters with Elphaba’s broom and Glinda’s purse and crown. A buildable base quickly turns this set from an unlimited play experience, into a display model. Glinda measures over 5 in. (14 cm) tall; Elphaba measures over 5 in. (13 cm) tall
I love the new transparent green leaf elements. I am somewhat intrigued by the use of printed cat bonnets/roofs for the character’s faces. Still, the SNOT techniques involved in constructing the hair detail look interesting. This is the kind of set that might not have been attempted years ago, but following the frequent appearance of brick-built characters in LEGO Masters, I can see this being Perhaps this character format will take off for future licensed themes?

75684 LEGO® Wicked Welcome to Emerald City
8+. 945 Pieces. RRP: $AUD169.99 / €99.99 / $99.99 / £89.99
Wicked fans will be able to dance through life into iconic film scenes with sets such as the LEGO Wicked Welcome to Emerald City tower set, which offers a wiz-tastic view of Emerald City and includes five mini-dolls based on the film’s characters: Glinda, Elphaba, The Wizard, Madame Morrible and Fiyero. The set measures over 15.5 in. (39 cm) high, 14.5 in. (37 cm) wide and 5 in. (13 cm) deep.
The Emerald City offers plenty of larger curved elements in bright green, with what appears to be pearl gold tiles – relatively uncommon elements in this colour. Dark blue and teal offset these base colours.

75683 LEGO® Wicked Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory
Ages 9+ 740 Pieces RRP: €69.99 / $69.99 / £59.99
The LEGO Wicked Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory set recreates the pop-u-lar location with a beautifully detailed suitcase which opens up to become the two girls’ dorm room. Fans can be inspired to play out their own stories within Oz by scanning the QR code hidden within the set to play the song “Popular” from the film and make the characters perform the dazzlifying scene, while exploring new adventures.
I love the room hidden in a suitcase here, to say nothing of the bright light purple rose – I am curious to see if it is functionally a recolour of any of the roses we have seen before, or a completely new design.

75681 LEGO® Wicked Glinda, Elphaba & Nessarose at Shiz University™
7+ 304 pieces RRP: $AUD49.99 / €29.99 / $29.99 / £24.99
The LEGO Wicked Glinda, Elphaba & Nessarose at Shiz University™ set truly is the proudest sight there is. Fans get to accompany Glinda on the sailboat, which features beautiful golden detailing and a pink-shaded hinged sail, on which she first arrives at the most prestigious university in all of Oz. The set features the two-story university building, balconies, study spaces and many thrillifying details. In the building Glinda finds Elphaba and Nessarose, Elphaba’s sister.
This smallest set in the range feels like a traditional Disney Princess set with a few minifigures as well as a small castle and boat, but the colouring of the building is something new. Bright red leaves and foliage elements! I also like the approach taken with the sails of the boat.

Hidden QR codes can be found in every set for fans to unlock inspirational content to create even more pink and green LEGO Wicked moments. I am intrigued by this gimmick to keep kids engaged in the build process – will it be audio only, or a little clip with minidoll animation to provide a break in the build?
“I’m truly excited that we can finally reveal our lineup of LEGO Wicked sets” said Raquel Ojeda Gregorio, LEGO Wicked Design Lead at the LEGO Group. “I am a big fan of the Wicked story, so it was an honor for me to get to work as part of an amazing team to recreate some of the unique locations, characters and storylines from the magical world of Oz. We chose some heartwarming moments from the film, so fans can bring a part of the story home and defy gravity using LEGO bricks.”
Overall, I love the look of the new sets, and I think the interactive aspects of the build projects will help kids who might not necessarily indulge in listening to showtunes to add to their build experience. In the meantime, maybe…just maybe.. I’ll try to catch the show while it is still showing in Melbourne over the next couple of weeks. now if only I can find the time?
The new LEGO Wicked sets will be available for pre-order starting today, via www.LEGO.com/themes/wicked, and in LEGO stores worldwide starting October 1st.
