LEGO ICONS has recreated one of the most successful F1 cars of all time, the 1988 McLaren MP4/4. Developed in collaboration with McLaren Racing and the Senna brand, the LEGO ICONS McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna has accurate detailing and realistic functions. I love the idea of Technic releasing both a pullback scale, as well as a full scale ’18+’ build of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance. I’d love to know what you think of these sets: Are LEGO Cars your thing? Racing cars of some form or another have been a cornerstone of LEGO sets since the early says of LEGO Town (and even before then, with the LEGO Expert Builder’s series), and I am looking forward to having a play with these. To say nothing of comparing the small and large Mercedes builds.

  1. As someone who enjoys F1 and attends the Indy 500 every year, I’m very happy to see these F1 sets in different sizes and prices. And race cars of every kind are just cool.

      • Probably the Speed Champions McLaren as it’s the same scale as the Mercedes W12 Speed Champions car that’s already available and I’d like to see Lando Norris break through for his first win. It doesn’t hurt that McLaren uses the same colors on its F1 and Indy cars. I’m also interested in the large Technic Mercedes. I have never built a large Technic model, but if I ever do, it will most likely be an open wheel race car, and I don’t know why, but I like that Mercedes better than the large McLaren. And while my kids don’t watch F1 with me, they always want to know how Lewis Hamilton did.

      • And I posted this just minutes before seeing the news that Lewis Hamilton will move to Ferrari. Unbelievable!

  3. Awesome news with Lego revealing a range of F1 cars and Lewis signing for Ferrari on the same day. Definitely will get my hands on Gordon Murray’s MP 4/4 and the 2023 McLaren Speed Champions car. Of course I would have been even more content getting a minifig version of Alain Prost too, but understandable with the upcoming 30th anniversary of Senna’s fatal accident in Imola on May 1st this year.

  4. I’m indifferent to racing, but I hope the yellow and orange motorcycle helmets in the Speed Champions and Icons sets would mean that unprinted yellow and orange helmets would come up on Lego Pick-A-Brick. Yellow is the rarest of the Mondrian colors, and Orange is extremely rare, having only been widely released in printed form.

  5. 42619 for the win.
The big technic sets are overpriced as are the dinky speedchamps imo.
F1 bores me, w.r.c and b.t.c. is far more exciting!
Bike racing too but lego bikes suck i.m.o.
