Overnight, the next series of Collectible Minifigures was announced via the LEGO Social Media Channels. They must have Disney on their mind at the moment, as this comes hot on the heels of the announcement of the Steamboat Willie Ideas set.
Unlike that monochrome set, this one is bright and colourful, and some might suggest more reasonably priced. There are eighteen figures in this new set, from eight different Disney Licences.

- ‘Nostalgia’ Mickey and Minnie from Steamboat Willie – with subtle differences from those in the new Ideas set no silver highlights for a start;
- Jasmine and Jafar from Aladdin – not surprising given Aladdin and the Genie appearied in S1, and there is a live action movie preparing for release;
- Ella and Elsa finally appearing in Minifigure form, after doing time as minidolls;
- Hercules and Hades from Hercules,
- Chip’n’Dale, from so many cartoons,
- Edna Mode and Frozen – with Edna now being available more widely that the preorders of the Incredibles 2 Video game – both complementing S1’s Mr Incredible and Syndrome,
- Jack Skellington and Sally from the Nightmare before Christmas,
- Filling in the remaining four spaces, Uncle Scrooge McDuck, and Donald’s nephews: Huey, Dewey and Louis. Te thing is, you could never just have one…
Some of these were definitely needing to make an appearance – and some were probably obvious. There is no doubt that these will fly off the shelves when they are released – the exact date is to be confirmed – but the catalog I picked up at my toyshop suggests general availability in May. Hopefully they will be around longer than the first series was.
I like the look of this series, which probably resonates with younger Disney fans far more than the first series. I look forward to being able to look at the set in closer detail soon.
What do you think of this new series? A great selection, or a decision to make between this and the new Ideas set? I love the arrival of Jasmine and Jafar particularly, as will as the new Edna Mode, who appears more true to form than the poly bag previously released. Why don’t you leave your thoughts below, and until next time,
Play Well.
