Why this ship? The Dual Fuel container ships can operate using both Liquid natural gas and methanol as fuel. Running on methanol can reduce emmissios by up to 280 tonnes of CO2 each day – the Ane Maersk was the first in this class to be operational. It has a capacity of 16592 TEU (twenty foot container equivalents). Subsequently, Maersk has added a further 18 dual-fuel ships to its fleet, including a conversion of a single-fuel vessel.
