In our review of 71513Nightmare Scorpion Digger we briefly explored how a smaller portion of Technic sets are for something other than cars. Here we can celebrate such a not-a-car set, with 42218 John Deere 1670H Wheeled Harvester, a small set with 117 pieces for AU$14.99/£8.99/US$9.99/€9.99

This set is adorable. It’s tiny but captures the shape and functionality of a log handler quite well. The set introduces you to a worm gear to create a lifting mechanism that stays in place, it has a lever mechanism and gripping, and a middle steering mechanism. All with 117 pieces!

The build is very quick and simple, after a few steps you see the tractor part coming together, followed by the mechanism on the back of the truck. You can use this to carry around the brown beam that comes with it, but as shown in the photos you can just as well use it to move around some pretzel sticks, or other snacks of your choosing.

I think with that you get the idea what this set is about. It won’t set you broke and it can provide fun for quite some time. Perhaps it would be nice to put on your desk or on the armrest of your favourite seat? You can’t really go far wrong with this small set, so I give this an arbitrary 4 out of 5 praise units. I can imagine doing far worse for a Technic set at this price bracket.
