31162 Creator 3in1: Cute Bunny

We have been browsing through some of the LEGO Creator 3in1 sets for the January release, particularly those looking at creature builds. I have another today: 31162 Cute Bunny has 326 pieces and will be priced at $AUD29.99/£17.99/$usd19.99/€19.99. There are three builds – a rabbit, a seal pup, and a llama. The LEGO Group provided this set for review purposes, all opinions are my own. Let’s take a closer look.

The box of this 5+ set emphasizes the opportunity to build the model together as a group, using the LEGO Builder app. This allows you to build the same model together, with different people collecting and assembling different pieces together in parallel – passing parts around as they go. This requires digital instructions, which won’t be online for another few days.

In the meantime, here are the 326 pieces laid out for your pleasure. As you can see, the pieces are predominantly tan, with some white and pale nougat for good measure. Again, there are plenty of curved slopes, including 2×2 and 3×3 quarter circles.

The 2x2x2/3 half circle, with 2 studs is new to me and I am curious to see how they fit into these builds.

The hero build is out bunny.

the build starts of simply, and I was amused to see this heart tile incorporated in the centre of the build. This heart is repeated time and again through out the alternate builds, and will be loved by many, I am sure.

We build up the belly, using click hinges for the hind legs, and a small double ball joint for the tail. The forearms will each be on small ball joints. the hind legs build up around a circular core, with the ‘2×3 rock element’ appearing in tan for the rabbit’s scruffy feet.

We add a small tail and the head: the ears are remarkably mobile.

The contrast between the tan and nougat are particularly subtle to distinguish, particularly if you are working with a warm overhead light bulb.

We complete the model with a dandelion and a small carrot…

This gives our young rabbit lots of options…

Seal Pup

The second build is for a seal pup, on a small ice floe, while a secondary build give it a little fish to chase and snack on. While the flippers and tail can be posed, I probably found this to be my least favorite of the three builds in this set.

Baby Llama

The final build is for a juvenile llama. There is a small bush, as well as a piece of fruit to complete the build.wile the face is fixed, the neck movement adds to the expressiveness of the animal.

I really like the way the mix of tiles and curved slopes is used to give the shape of the legs.

I found that the hero model of this set was my favorite. It has good articulation and a remarkable range of expression. The llama is cute, and I appreciate the amount of detail conveyed in so few parts. Finally the baby seal. While it may not inspire me immensely, I cant criticise its inclusion: it really conveys the versatility of the medium: we have a hopping animal, a walker and a swimmer.

This is the smallest of the mammal based Creator sets, and is sure to be popular amongst some children. The recurring heart tile in the animal models is a nice touch, while the variety of creatures created using the smaller parts palette compared with 31163 and 31165 is impressive. I feel the set offers good playability and value for money. I am happy to give the model three point five out of five arbitrary praise units (3.5/5).

Creator 3in set 31162 Cute Bunny will go on sale on January 1 2025, with wide availability. The set has 326 pieces and will be priced at $AUD29.99/£17.99/$usd19.99/€19.99.
