Its March 10. And in its own special way, this becomes Mar10 – Mario day. To celebrate, the LEGO group have posted a video revealing 3 new LEGO super Mario Play sets, for release in August 2024. In addition to this, LEGO MarioKart has been teased for 2025.
71437 The Bowser Express Train
With 1392 Pieces and priced at $AUD199.99, the set has a Hammer Bro, Boom Boom, 2 Para-Biddy Buds and 2 Goombas enjoying a Tea Party together. Mario recognises the Train, generating train noises when he stands on the Action tile.

71435 Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle
At $AUD99.99 and with 738 pieces, we finally complete the family of Koopalings. Peach’s castle is able to readily take a tumble when attacked, and it is up to Mario, Peach or Luigi to defend it. The set includes a piano that promts Peach to play a tune when she sits on the stool.
Koopling Roy rides on the amazingly alliterative Chain Chomp Chariot!

71436 King Boo’s Haunted Mansion
With 932 pieces, and priced at $AUD119.99, this set sees baby Yoshi come forward to aid Luigi in his quest to clear the mansion of ghosts, and uncover hidden treasures along the way, including a new Lock and Key mechanic for treasure chests. To say nothing of a hauntes Sofa. The set includes King Boo, Dry Bones and a Boo.

Just one More Thing

This was the headline event on Instagram this morning: the lightning filled tease that LEGO Mario Kart will appear in 2025. Precious few details are revealed at this point, but it has been a while since the franchise has piqued my interest quite so much.
Trains and castles are the evergreen LEGO themes represented in these themes, with each set designed around a different one of the starter set characters. These look like they will be fun playsets, which is consistent with the direction that the theme has been heading in recent waves. However, unlike recent waves, these are full blown, character driven expansion sets. I had been wondering about the potential demise of LEGO super Mario as a theme, but these sets, along with the promise of Mario Kart in 2025 certainly show that there is life in the theme yet.
Here is the Mar10 day video from LEGO’s youtube channel…
