Nightmare Scorpion Digger 71513, an issue with construction [review]

LEGO set featuring the Nightmare Scorpion Digger 71513 with mini-figures, a crystal, and spiders, highlighted with colorful pieces.

Branko woke up from a dream wondering if Construction Equipment was on the way out. He couldn’t get back to sleep until he came up with the answer…

In January 2026 LEGO will release another wave of Dreamzzz sets and the balance between ‘dream’ and ‘nightmare’ seems solidly to have swung towards ‘Dream’. There is only 1 set out of 5 in the wave that is considered a nightmare, and it is the smallest of the lot at that. Cue “Nightmare Scorpion Digger 71513”, coming in at 505 pieces for AU$79.99/£44.99/US$49.99/€49.99. This is not a small set, it’s just the smallest of the lot (read more on that here).

The sets in this series are all associated with animals, and some machinery, but it struck me that this particular one is very strongly related to construction equipment. In recent years fans of Technic have been complaining a bit about a reduction of the number of construction equipment sets, so this left me wondering. Has construction gotten into bad books? Is digging holes no longer considered cool?

Join me as we have a quick look to see if Technic fans are objectively correct in their gripe, and then we will cheerfully ignore that and have a look at how construction equipment is used to create this particular nightmare creature.

This set was generously gifted by LEGO, but the expressed opinions are my own.

Dreamzzz 2026 Collector’s Guide

A visual guide to the 2026 LEGO® Dreamzzz sets featuring minifigures, swords, crystals, and creatures organized by set numbers: 71508, 71512, 71513, 71514, and 71515.

The next wave of LEGO® Dreamzzz contains a collectable aspect, as such themes often do. In the past we’ve had spinners, golden weapons, shields… and in the 2026 Dreamzzz sets, we have two collectables; HUGE swords, and crystal creatures. The boxes seem fairly clear about this:

For your convenience we’ve put together a quick table to show you which variants you can collect in the 5 sets to be released in January 2026, so you can target your favourite parts.

The five sets generously provided by LEGO, to be released in January are:

We will refer to their set numbers in the images below

NEW Build-a-Mini brings us Waking World DREAMZzz Characters: Minifigure Overview

In which we look at the figures in the build a ministations, compare theme with their existing counterparts and speculate over the next colour of spaceman torso. I think the clues are all there…

While LEGO® Dreamzzz sets focus mainly on the Dream World, a significant part of the action takes place in the waking world: the schoolyard, the kids’ homes and other locations around LEGO Brooklyn. It has been a little frustrating, being unable to get the right minifigures for these settings, until now…

LEGO DREAMZZz Set 71484 Cooper’s Robot Dinosaur C-Rex Review

There is something about dinosaurs: they capture the imagination of kids from an early age, and rarely let go! We have already taken a look at a most excellent but fairly normal-looking Creator 3in1 T. Rex this year; in the true sense of the DREAMZZz ‘Mash everything up’ philosophy, we have a new dinosaur model in this theme, this time a C. Rex.

Now… just what is a C. Rex? According to the DREAMZZz wiki, it’s a Coopersaurus Rex, and we can expect to see it early on in the next wave of episodes, due to drop on AUGUST 31. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look.

71476: Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl [Hands On Review]

Zian the Cat-Owl is an important ally of the Dream Chasers in the first series of LEGO DREAMZZz, and as such, felt like a missing piece when the first wave of sets dropped last August. Fortunately, with the second wave of sets, this has been rectified.

This set is due for release on the first of January 2024. With 431 pieces, it is the second largest set in the wave and, along with Zoey and Cooper, presents us with a number of the Grimspawn as well well asNight Hunter.

Let’s take a closer look.

Monster Truck Mashup: 71458 DREAMZzz Crocodile Car

Early in the publicity cycle for LEGO DREAMZzz, there was a Ninjago Short, in which we saw some of the imaginative vehicles that we would encounter in LEGO DREAMZzz. One was the ultimate Monster Truck: a Truck (well…car) crossed with a monster. Crocodile Car does what it says on the box. There is, of course, a Monster Truck as the secondary build, to say nothing of one of my favourite figures for the theme.

71455 Grimkeeper the Cage Monster. Is this one of the most terrifying LEGO® sets of the modern era?

You look around and suddenly find yourself in a fantastical world, full of colour and wonder.

Suddenly it appears before you: a tall skeletal creature with glowing eyes and a mouth full of yellowish-green teeth. You take another look. There, where its belly should be, is a cage. In that cage, you see the sleeping body of your best friend. It is now up to you to save them, and you have no idea what is going on. Truly the stuff of nightmares.

Is this one of the most terrifying LEGO Sets ever?

We have looked at Hero-centric sets in the upcoming DREAMZzz theme so far. Today, I thought we would turn our attention to one of the servants of the Nightmare King: 71455 Grimkeeper the Cage Monster. This gangly creature with spindly claws gathers sleeping dreamers for the Nightmare King. Several versions of the character exist throughout the first wave of LEGO DREAMZzz sets, but this is the largest and most detailed. Let’s take a closer look.
