LEGO Animal Crossing: 77046 Julian’s Birthday Party – Just Add Minifigures!

It’s Julian’s birthday… or will be soon, any way. This villager comes with all you need to set up a great party for your minifigures – whether they are from the Animal Crossing universe or not.

This 150 piece set comes with one minifigure and a pile of presents and cake! It will be on sale on March 1 and will cost $AUD19.99/$USD14.99/€14.99/£12.99. Let’s take a closer look!

The Elements

Most of the elements in the set are small – in fact, while there are 170 pieces listed in the set, I found another 40 or so after I complete construction. There are a few features of note: the rounded square base plates in this set come in bright yellowish/lime green- the first time these elements appeared in this colour. There are plenty of ‘pin’ attachment elements: bows, flowers, party hats. We have a lamp post, as well as a ‘chocolate icing ‘ element, as well as the makings of a tree, this time in pink/bright light purple with flowers .

The Minifigure

The set comes with one minifigure: the Eponymous Julian: he is a blue unicorn with a small white horn. He wears a most spectacular hoodie with a galaxy print. This lines up quite well with his appearance in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

As with all of the figures in the range, he features a pinhole to attach a party hat (or a flower, bow or sunglasses). His pale blue head has a mane os medium blue, while both his nose and horn are white. His eyes are closed, which seem sto be consistant with his typical appearance.

The build:

The build is, unsurprisingly, rather simple. our first bag consists of the presents that Julian gets fir his birthday. There is an interesting variety of techniques used to create the wrappings. He also has a skateboars, with a star and small bow attached.

The bag with the orange wrapping and purple ribbon is built using a similar technique to the present in 77049 Isabelle’s House Visit: panels around the edges, leaving room for presents: one bell, a star and a microphone. Should you wish, this might be an appropriate gift to attach to a balloon: Fauna will be able to lend Julian a sling shot to shoot it down.

It wouldn’t be a party without any cake, and the picnic table has been set up with a ton of it: With chocolate icing dripping over the yellow cake, with firthure lavender trim on top, the birthday cake has a single candle mounted on it, There are a couple of cupcakes to be had as well: one cherry, and one chocolate. There is also a clear drink bottle, along with a couple of cups on the table. Around the edges of the cake, we attach a few floral decorations, to kieep it looking light and festive! There are small stools around the table, which may or may not be practical for our guests, depending on whether or not they have tails, or flexible hips.

Moving forward, we build a lamppost, with a clip tucked away on its back, as well as add a couple of balloons: one red, and one pale blue.

We add a tree with bright light purple foliage, inside, there is a stick. On the back, there is a white clip, the purpose of which shall be revealed to us shortly, I am certain… We build up a radio as well.

Nookipedia tells us that Julian loves to sing – with or without a microphone and radio – and I think the set is trying to accomodate his here!

Finally, we put these plates together, and join them up with a garland/chain of pennants.

It’s My Party

Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without a few guests…

Isabelle brought her slingshot, to help Julian free up that present. Having found a Microphone (as well as some Birthday Bell’s), Julian proceeds to entertain his guests:

And then, with the Arrival of VIDIYO’s unicorn singer, the party really took off! Even if Tom Nook doesn’t look very impressed.

Closing Thoughts

This set has everything you need to celebrate Julian’s birthday (which is apparently on March 15th), except for guests! I love the details that are added to the set – from the stools around the table, to the excessively decorated cake! this set has a couple of clues as to Julian’s personality and hobbies, but doesn’t seem to have the same amout of clues as to the game play as Isabella’s House Visit did. However, it becomes very easy to add a few minifigures to the scene to get hte party started. I find myself wondering if there are plans to introduce human Villagers to the LEGO Range, to allow children to customise their own in game avatar.

Ultimately, its a fun, pocket money set, that comes with an excess of things that you might need for a minifigure’s birthday party. With presents, cake and drinks, you just need to add a few more minifigures to make it complete. Julian’s torso print is magnificent. There are not too many things included in this set that are a mystery to non-Animal crossing players – which I found a a relief after the endless details tucked away in 77049. That said, a few clues like the radio and microphone give us some insight into Julian’s love of music,

The set goes on sale on March 1, or you might find it sooner! It has a retail price of $AUD19.99/$USD14.99/€14.99/£12.99.
