Brickvention 2023 is only 2 weeks away. Fan Day in LEGO® House With New Fan Exhibition and Live Presentation

After the pandemic put a hole in everyone’s plans last year, the Skaerbaek Fan Weekend is back in 2021. The Thursday before the weekend has, for 3 of the last 4 years anyway, been associated with a trip to the LEGO House for an AFOL Day. Last year, in the absence of the true physical event, an online event took place.

This weekend, LEGO Fans from around the world – well, the parts that can travel to Denmark, anyway, are heading back to Skaerbaek. And once again, there will be an AFOL Day at the LEGO House. As well as unveilling new exhibits in the Masterpiece gallery, there will also be a number of presentations from Vice President for Design, Matthew Ashton, the Ninjago Team, as well as an update on the LEGO Groups Sustainability developments. Perhaps this is more like what AFOLs were expecting from LEGO Con, held earlier this year.

Brickvention’s Back in 2022: New Venue, New Dates. Exhibitor Applications Now Open

Brickvention is Australia’s Premier LEGO Fan Event, and was directly responsible for me coming out of my dark ages over 12 years ago. After a year of on-again, off-again lockdowns, the team behind Brickvention have announced the 2022 event. With a new venue, timing and logo this year, a lot is changing! This year, the event has been designated an AFOL Networking Event by the LEGO Group.

The Royal Exhibition Building, home to the event from 2012 to 2020 is currently being used as a COVID-19 vaccination hub and isn’t available. So this year, the event will take place at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in Albert Park, Victoria. Located on the other side of the City Centre, this venue offers a huge area for exhibiting MOCs, in an appropriately socially distanced fashion.

The timing is also a little different: rather than mid-January, it will take place much earlier in the month: after bump-in (January 6th), there is AFOL Convention Day (January 7th), followed by two days of Public Expo on the 8th and 9th of January.

‘Snap’ Lockdown Virtual Toy Photo Safari – Sunday 29th August 9am-5pm AEST

The impact of the pandemic continues to affect many people around the world. Here in Australia, the states of Victoria and New South Wales are currently under lockdown/stay at home orders, to minimise spread of the delta variant, while vaccines are rolled out.

This coincides with the weather stating to improve, as spring approaches. I was hoping to catching up with some friends in the near future to go on a Toy Photo Safari. We were looking forward to taking our LEGO Minifigures and other action figures out into the wild, getting our cameras down to their level, and taking a few pictures. The restrictions currently in place for Victoria and New South Wales are likely to put a hold on those plans for the next couple of months.

The limitations of the current situation came up in a chat with some friends in South Australia, who recently cancelled their real world Brickstameet due to a short local lockdown. And so we have decided not to wait, and take the meetup online.

This weekend, The Rambling Brick, and South Australia’s Brickstameet team are looking forward to working together to host ‘Snap!’ a virtual toy photo safari.

BrickCon Is Back, In Real Life!

If nothing else, the lockdowns brought on by the pandemic have taught us just how much many of us value the opportunity to get to live, face to face events. I have attended a few events over the last couple of years, all using different variations of online event. While parts of the world are opening up, international travel is still but a dream to many of us. BrickCon 2020 was one of the first international online events that I attended last year, and they are pleased to announce that this year they are running in person, as well as hybrid registrations. Read on for the full story, and registration details. Real life Registrations will be limited to 400, and open AUGUST 1st. Hybrid/online registrations open September 1

BrickCon has announced that its 20th annual LEGO fan convention and public exhibition is coming back to the Seattle Center. BrickCon 2021 will be held Oct. 1 – 3 and will offer adult LEGO builders a full convention featuring displays, awards, classes, workshops, prizes, vendors and more. BrickCon will also offer a limited hybrid virtual ticket for fans who can’t travel.

Brickvention Online is Now Live

It has been a busy week. But not for the reasons it might normally be at this time of the year. Normally, I’d have been busy putting together last minute touches for my creation at Brickvention – Australia’s Premier LEGO® Fan Event. The reasons that my week has actually been busy don’t really matter right now. What does matter is that Brickvention 2021 has gone the way of the pandemic, and is a totally online event. The great news is that you can experience all of the activities for the weekend for free.

There will live streams, and a variety of tutorials going live on YouTube over the course of the weekend. Tomorrow, there is a full lineup of Special Guests from around the world.

You can find full details of the the online event at http://brickvention.online.

Would you be Interested in a Fan Event Dedicated to LEGO History? Fill In Our ‘Expressions of Interest’ Questionnaire.

Recently, the LEGO House ran a series of presentations, touring the history collection, as live streams. Guided by one of the Corporate Historians, these streams were attended by thousands. This has left myself, and a couple of colleagues on the LEGO Ambassadors Network wondering: Would a Fan Event dedicated to LEGO History appeal to people? And if so, how should we make it work?

In conjunction with OldBricks.it, we are putting out a pilot survey, to see what people would want in such an event. If you wish, we will put you on the mailing list for further information, so that you will be kept up to date with our progress. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete. You can find the form here.
