We have had another few sets in the August LEGO Super Mario wave revealed. Focusing on life in the jungle with Donkey Kong, his family and his friends. The sets will be available on August 1, 2023. The range continues to mix-up the way in which children can engage with the interactive Mario, Luigi or Peach characters, including sharing food, playing the bongos, flying a plane or just having a chat. The forthcoming LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong’s Tree House has been revealed and is available for preorder from the Australian Certified Stores for $94.99 AUD. It will be available on 1st August 2023.
It comes with 2 buildable figures: Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong.

In recent years, we have seen LEGO sets continuing to embrace old paradigms, while expanding newer ones, and I was intrigued to see that after last year’s successful LEGO Ideas Green Hill Zone, that another four sets in the Sonic theme have been announced. Now, this is not the first time that a LEGO Ideas set has preemted expansion of that theme: Ghostbusters would be one; Minecraft another, One has continued for a much longer period in the market place.
These new sets are interesting as they include elements related to the story, including characters and locations familiar to fans of the game.
The sets are due for release on the first of August, and offer a somewhat different paradigm to the other nostalgic video game franchise currently in production: LEGO Super Mario. With Sonic, we have a combination of Minifigures (all featuring moulded heads), as well as some brick built characters, as opposed to LEGO Super Mario, where brick-built characters – based around the digital brick – are the norm (much to the chagrin of some). read on for details…

Over the last week or so, we have been playing a game of hide and seek with fragments of the latest Ninjago Poster scattered all over the internet. With fragments tucked away on the Ninjago Facebook Page, the LEGO .com Website, Instagram and Twitter, to say nothing of the part shared by LEGO Fan Media, we were given an idea of what a sizable part of the poster might look like over the weekend.

One of the most exciting aspects of the LEGO Ideas round unveiled last September at RLFM days was that, after a number of ever larger and more expensive sets released there were a few appearing on the horizon which addressed this relative imbalance.
One of these was the submission ‘Tales of the Space Age’ by LEGO Ideas user JohnCarpenter. Inspired by Sci-fi movie posters and book covers of the 1980s, these postcards rapidly caught the imaginations of people around the world, with their stark, minimalistic designs, while evoking an era in a way that felt nostalgic, even when it was a current style!

I hinted a couple of weeks ago about my fondness for the intrinsic ‘spirit’ of series such as Ninjago and Monkie Kid – they are both sci-fi fantasy themes and, as such, bring us the closest thing to Classic Space and Castle themes that we are likely to see on an ongoing basis for the time being.
We have seen the first half year present a ‘Core’ Range for Ninjago, while the second half of last year tied in closely with the animated series.
Earlier in the year, I joined several other Fan Media in a conversation with Niek van Slagmaat and Markus Rollbühler, both part of the Ninjago team, about the ‘Core’ Series – the sets we saw released in January, with seemingly no connection to the series, beyond the presence of those Core Ninjago values: Mechs, Vehicles, Dragons, Dojos and of course, Ninja.

It was 1983, and fourteen-year-old me had been waiting fairly patiently for the arrival of Return of the Jedi (teased for a while as Revenge of the Jedi) – bringing with is the conclusion to the story that had been inspiring my school friends and I for the previous 6 years. And with it, we saw some iconic scenes: Jabbas Palace and the Sarlacc Pitt; Heroes of the Rebellion gathering on board the Mon Calamari spaceship, Home One; Yoda’s death on Dagobah and, of course, the forest moon of Endor, as well as the Emporer’s throne room on the second death Star.
Originally intended to be revealed to an unsuspecting world at Star Wars Celebration, we can now bring you the press pack for the latest Star Wars Dioramas: The Emporer’s Throne Room and the Endor Speeder Chase. Last Year’s dioramas The Trash Compactor, Jedi Training Ground and the Trecnch run were some of my favourite display sets last year – being engaging subject matter, some interesting builds that could be completed in a little over the course of an evening, and (most importantly) able to fit on a relatively small footprint.

Now, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that with May the 4th less than a month away, we are starting to see new LEGO Star Wars sets officially revealed. Overnight, we got our first complete views of the third UCS X-Wing. (The first (7191) being released in 2000, the second (10240) in 2013. Now the X-wing has always been the iconic Star Fighter for me, ever since my first glimpse back in 1977. It was also the first Star Wars ship that I attempted to build to accomodate my action figures, back in the day.
However, I totally missed the previous versions of this ship: I just wasn’t really ready to make that sort of an investment at the time. Life has moved on, and I am glad that I can reconsider adding one to my collection, without investing excessively on the secondary market.
And so, here is 75355 X-Wing Starfighter, due for release on 1st of May for VIP Customers…
