The AT-AT is one of those iconic vehicles from the original Star Wars Trilogy, serving up a drubbing to the Rebellion and helping this 12 year old come to terms with the fact the good guys would not always win.
This is the third ‘Major’ LEGO Star Wars release this year. The R2D2 sculpture was not, technically, a UCS set according to the LEGO Star Wars Team. We then saw the UCS Republic Gunship released in August, and no confirmed news about whether we would see another large set: either a UCS or Master Builders Series. This one looks like a UCS, but with 8 minifigures and some other Speeder bikes and an E-Web gun, this set appears to be making up for a lost time, after the last time the UCS range visited Hoth.
This is certainly the year where too large is a phrase unknown to the LEGO Star Wars Team. The AT-AT model is 72cm (24.5″) tall; 69cm (27″) long and a mere 24 cm (9.5″) wide. With those dimensions, it is on a par with the Republic Gunship, mounted on its side. It has 6785 pieces and looks like it is very close to a proper Minifigure scale. I love the way the side panels come off to reveal the amount of internal detail: it really gives me the feeling of an oversized Kenner Playset from 1980.
While the set comes with 9 minifigures, it will be able to contain most of the other snow troopers you have ever amassed, as it will seat 30 minifigures – plus there is also standing room. And room in the control centre for more!
Among the figures are General Veers and Luke Skywalker; two AT-AT pilots, a Snowtrooper Commander, and 4 Snowtroopers.
Luke has access to a cable gun, allowing him to hang around while the AT-AT approaches the Rebel Base.
The neck seems to be posable and is set up across a few large wheels.
I love the model’s look: Overall, its legs appear to be fixed, although they can be adjusted using a specially constructed socket driver. However, I can see someone inadvertently designing a powered driver and inflicting all sorts of havoc on the model!
This model certainly looks impressive on display, although I can imagine it being vulnerable to a fast-moving or inquisitive pet:

9th November 2021: Today, the LEGO Group announces the new epic LEGO® Star Wars™ AT-AT™ set – the latest launch in the Ultimate Collector Series set (UCS) line-up and a must-have for fans of LEGO and Star Wars.
The AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) first appeared in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, its huge presence appearing over the horizon on the icy fields during the Battle of Hoth, ready to attack the Rebel Alliance’s shield generator. Nothing like it had ever been seen before, and the Galactic Empire’s ground forces used the AT-AT’s gigantic size to overpower the Rebellion and ultimately destroy Echo Base.
This immense new LEGO model is massive in size and detail, paying homage to the gigantic vehicles in the film. It features 6,785 pieces, a movable head, spinning guns, adjustable legs, and side panels that open to reveal amazingly detailed interiors.
In addition, the set comes with nine minifigures and accessories, including Luke Skywalker (along with a wire so fans can recreate the famous scene of him swinging from an AT-AT’s underside in an attempt to thwart their attack), General Veers, two AT-AT drivers, a Snowtrooper Commander and four Snowtrooper minifigures, as well as two speeder bikes and an E-Web cannon set accessories — plus plenty of interactive elements and easter eggs! An amazing set for display or action, the set can also fit an army of Snowtrooper minifigures inside – 40 in total.
Even the unboxing is a rewarding experience, as the packaging displays beautiful imagery of the final set from all angles. Whilst all the pieces are stored in four internal boxes, which combined show the famous Battle of Hoth scene.
A must-have for any dedicated Star Wars fan, this model has been designed by legendary LEGO Design Master Henrik Andersen. This is one of the more appealing Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets that I have seen for some time. Functionally, it has a high level of Minifigure integration, with additional features – such as seating capacity in the main body as well as the head. Compare this with the UCS Republic Gunship, which is significantly larger than Minifigure scale. The exposed studs on the body enhance the LEGOness of the model, and the overall of the model is consistent with the source material.
This is one of the more appealing UCS sets of recent years, and this is reflected to some extent in the part count, as well as the final price. At $USD800, it is certainly at the top of the line of Star Wars sets seen – and in part count, enters the top 10. this list has taken a beating in the last few months, with the original UCS Millennium Falcon driven out of the list with the release of the Titanic this month. This set also pushes the relatively recently released Camp Nou from the list. With 6785 elements, it comes in at number 5 – after the World Map, Titanic, Collosseum and the 2018 Millennium Falcon. It is also has the the second-largest part count in a LEGO Star Wars set of all time.
This set will be released at the end November, coinciding with the Brick Friday/ Thanksgiving weekend. I do not know if there will be a special Star Wars related Gift with Purchase available at that time, or whether we shall see other specials at the time.

This looks to be an incredible set, but I’m quite annoyed at the UK price. The $800 UCS Falcon was £650, then the UCS Star Destroyer was $700 and £650. Now going from $800 to £750? That’s awful, not good value here at all.
I suspect we shall see similar shenanigans with the Australian Price…
Quite some time ago, I decided, ‘not’ to go down the path of collecting ‘Star Wars’ LEGO, for no other reason than I figured it would become quite an expensive, ‘hobby’. (Made the same decision with the ‘Brickheadz’ sets, although the GLW, (Good Lady Wife), does have a few HP ones – happy wife, happy life). Make no mistake, I’m a an avid fan of Star Wars, & the sets LEGO bring out are just something amazing, I & really enjoy looking at them, BUT, apart from no way having enough space to collect & or display them, at the price these sets are coming out at makes me think at least I’ve made one good decision in my life when it comes to collectable sets. On the other hand, the GLW does have every ‘modern’, LEGO creator ‘modular’ & similar sets!!! As always, a very informative & entertaining description from the Rambling Brick.
