There is something about a tree house that sparks the imagination: a place to take your imagination and go anywhere in the world, doing virtually anything. Today the LEGO Group officially unveil the latest LEGO Ideas set – the Tree House 21318, based on Kevin Feeser’s submission to the Ideas Program. Initially submitted to the Crowdsourcing website in 2017, it took just 4 months to reach 10000 supporters.

The underlying story as part of the submission was of an explorer’s family, lost, and building a tree house using reclaimed materials. This set brings us the largest tree ever seen in a LEGO set – and overall more than 180 foliage elements. As introduced last year, the botanical elements manufactured of polyethylene have their raw materials sourced from sustainably sourced ethanol. The plastic is the same as it was two years ago. It is not biodegradable. And it cannot be distinguished from the elements made from petroleum sourced polyethylene.
We do however see the 6×5 leaf element in many colours: dark green(BL Green), earth Green(Dark green); dark orange and bright yellowish orange. There are enough leaves to allow the tree to be built with either a summer or autumn foliage.
The landscape has been altered from the original, with a stream running past the tree, as well as a few rocks scattered here and there. A camp kitchen has been set up under the tree, and several lamps have been strung from the tree.
The house itself is full of details, and looks like it has something to to show all of us about creating furniture details.
The upper foliage and roofs can be removed from the tree to allow access to the internal details.

I’m very excited to have had the opportunity to look at this set already – and I thinks its great. There are some interesting techniques used in the construction of both the tree and the house – especially there furniture. I found it especially exciting to see the whole story unfold as I put it together. My review will be out very soon…

At $AUD279.99 its as much of an investment in parts as one of the modular houses – but certainly with an emphasis on the foliage as well as reddish brown and dark brown elements of various shapes. That’s the most beautiful LEGO composition I’ve ever seen. I will have to wait for the price to come down though. Houses and cityscapes are my favourite Lego constructions. But I’d rather live in a treehouse. Cheers!
