Today, The LEGO® Group officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated BrickHeadz range.  Previewed last year, with a few San Diego  Comic Con Exclusives, this new range seems to be entering the space occupied by collectables such as Funko Pop! vinyl figures, but with a constructible twist. The initial wave contains a selection of DC and Marvel Characters, but the press release promises many, many more to come… Who would you like to see? The release is scheduled for March 1 2017 from shop.lego.com.  There will be early access for VIP members from 15th February .

Australian Pricing is yet to be announced, but they will retail for $US9.99; $CA12.99, UK £9.99, DE €9.99 and DKK 100.  Given the closeness in our currency’s values, we can only hope that our pricing will be on par with the Canadian pricing, although I suspect it may be closer to $20. 

Addendum 1st Feb: Australian pricing has now been announced at $15.99.

 

While some of these characters were seen at SDCC (Batman™, Joker™, Iron Man™, Captain America™) they were with different designs.  As you can see, the DC figures follow with the designs used in the LEGO® BATMAN™ Movie.  There are a number of new and interesting pieces appearing here, including a new eye tile, the NEXO Knights shield, appearing in purple (Batgirl™)and lots of nougat/dark orange arches and a wedge plate (Black Widow™). All tiles featuring artwork appear to be printed.  There is also a tile featuring the wave number.

Now, while I am a huge fan of LEGO®, I also grew up playing with Playmobil, and watching Doctor Who.  Also coming in the Northern Spring, will be a collectable range of double sized, collectable Playmobil figures, featuring a variety of characters. At this stage they include the 4th and 11th Doctor; Marty McFly and Doc Smith, Willy Wonka and an Oompa Loompa, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.  Their release has been delayed from last summer, but I think will be worth the wait.
